How do you Find the Best Shareable Content for Twitter?
One of the most difficult things to do on social media is getting others to notice you. Think of your home feed, it can easily get overwhelming, and there are hundreds, if not thousands of people and businesses fighting for social media attention. So how do you cut through the thousands of tweets being posted every second? How do you find the best shareable content for your community of followers?
Sharing useful, interesting and relevant content is one of the best ways to make sure your followers keep following you - as well as getting you some new ones too. But what to share? Here are a few of our top tips to help you find the best content for your Twitter account.
1. #Hashtags and Keywords
Keyword and hashtag searches are an excellent way to keep up to date with discussions involving topics you and your community are interested in. The Twitter search bar is an excellent, yet simple way to search for keywords and hashtags within Twitter. You can also set up keyword searches on social media management tools, like HootSuite or TweetDeck. This can be particularly useful when following several topics at once.
Once you begin searching through relevant keywords and #hashtags you will soon find popular content, worthy of sharing with your twitter following. This is a great way to engage and interact with like-minded individuals who are tweeting about similar topics that you are interested in.
How can you keep on top of the latest goings-on in the Twitterverse, separate out your friends’ tweets from your colleagues’, or keep track of the competition? Twitter lists are a useful tool to do just that!
Grouping Twitter users into common threads allows you to very quickly filter out any Twitter noise, and view real time tweets from specific groups of users. You can create Twitter lists for almost anything. For example, keeping a Twitter list of key contributors or experts, on a particular subject, lets you quickly keep on top of what they have to say, and engage in relevant conversations.
This is another quick and useful way to find the best shareable content, without wasting time scrolling through your whole Twitter feed.
3. Twitter Apps
There are also a wide variety of apps and websites to assist you in finding shareable content.
Klout (known primarily for its ‘Klout Score', which is a ranking of your social media presence between 0 and 100) have recently redesigned their mobile application. From only measuring individuals’ Klout scores, Klout are now actively assisting their users in increasing their score.
Users of Klout can select topics that their followers find interesting. Klout then provides a stream of popular content based on your selection of topics - that can then be shared on to your Twitter feeds.
Topsy is another useful tool to find popular content to share on Twitter. Topsy is a real time search engine for social posts and social content, primarily for Twitter and Google+. The service ranks posts by popularity and by how much others support the posts.
4. Keep a library of content.
One of the common mistakes when sharing content is when you come across an exciting blog piece, tweet or website, you immediately want to share it with your followers. This leads to a continual cycle of searching, then posting content, which takes up a lot of time.
If you keep a database of shareable content, you can plan when you wish to share your posts, and save time searching for the right content. This can be particularly useful if you are using a social media scheduler, as you can quickly schedule your tweets from your database, at key times during the day.
5. Use rich media.
While text based tweets are still the most popular Twitter content shared, more visual content like images and video are becoming increasingly popular on Twitter. Making sure you include images and videos, when relevant to your content, can help make your posts a lot more attractive and shareable.
